Yoga can teach us how to embrace life in all it's guises.
Being alive in this moment, right here, right now.
Without breath, we are nothing.
The human body can survive 8 to 12 days without food, 3-7 days without water, but only a matter of minutes without breath.
Aside from keeping us alive by supplying the body with oxygen, breath is not purely an involuntary action.
Through my own study of prānāyāma (breathing exercises) I have discovered how it aids relaxation, soothes anxious times and re-energises the body.
With practice we can learn to breathe in a conscious and controlled way to reap numerous physical and psychological health benefits.
